Mrs. Elnora Sabbath Moreham
September 28, 1928 - May 4, 2018
On Friday, September 28, 1928, in Gloster, Louisiana, Robert and Mary Lee Sabbath welcomed their 13th child into the world whom they named Elnora; and she was continuously referred to throughout life as “the baby of the family”. Later on God blessed this family to settle a short distance away on a 100 acre farm in Keatchie, Louisiana. Elnora professed her love for God early in life, accepted Jesus Christ and united with her family at Bethlehem Baptist Church in Gloster, La. Elnora had a deep personal relationship with God, and was chosen by God to heal many, many sick people throughout her entire life. Elnora attended grade school at Faltine. She was exceptionally brilliant, gifted, and talented, and was often called upon as a child to assist the adults in cooking and meal preparations. This developed into a love and passion for cooking, because Elnora was able to prepare any dish and make it delicious. She enjoyed cooking and voluntarily fed countless people until a few short years ago. At the age of 16, Elnora accepted a full ride basketball scholarship to Grambling University. After receiving her 1st degree, she began teaching school. On March 5, 1949, Elnora married Willie Moreham Jr. and made Houston, TX her new home where she united with Pleasant Grove Baptist Church on Lyons Ave. under the soul protection of Pastor E. W. Whitfield. When Pastor Whitfield founded New Loyalty Baptist Church in 1957, Elnora and Willie moved their membership accordingly. Elnora served faithfully and proudly many years ushering as one of God’s Doorkeepers. In 1969 she was instrumental in organizing the church’s 1st Youth Usher Board. For many years she held her post of duty at church, changed clothes and reported directly to work. In 1971, while working at Leisure Arms Nursing Home, Elnora decided to change her career path, by obtaining her 2nd degree from San Jacinto College as a Certified Dietician. She continued in Dietary Management at various companies until making her final choice of Eastway General Hospital until her retirement. Then, after being asked so many times, she returned to work part-time an additional 4 years. Elnora was fondly and lovingly called many names, which include: Nora, El, Mrs. Moreham, Sister Moreham, Aunt Pete, Aunt Teenie, Teenie, Mrs Ham, Mama Ham, Mrs. Elnora, cousin Teenie, Mama, Mom; and she answered with a smile to each and every one. Approximately 2 weeks ago, early one morning Elnora was at Della’s house calling her loudly. Upon opening the bedroom door, she asked Della “Why didn’t you come back”? Puzzled, the answer was it wasn’t me and no one else is here. Elnora said someone knocked loudly on the door 3 times and she responded come, and the voice responded “come in”. So in that sassy voice Elnora said somebody needed to tell me something. Elnora answered when God called, “my child”, you have completely filled the dash in your life from Friday, 09/28/1928 - Friday, 05/04/2018, Well done, my good and faithful servant: You have been faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things: Enter into the joy of your Lord (Matthew 25:21).
