Mrs. Loretta Jones
September 23, 1956 - September 18, 2020
With the dawning of a beautiful new day, September 23, 1956 in Opelousas, Louisiana; Mary Lee Jones and Moses Malveaux were blessed with the birth of their precious daughter, Loretta. Loretta affectionately known as “Catfish” grew up in Texas City, Texas and she received her education through the Texas City ISD. Loretta loved GOD and had zeal inside of her to serve her LORD and SAVIOR. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Texas City, and later united with Galilee Baptist Church in Hitchcock, Texas, where she diligently served as an usher. She also loved and supported her family and her friends and was always there for them with encouraging words and a loving heart. She never hesitated to set them straight when they got off track. She lived her life to the fullest with a brave spirit that would keep it real with you, simply by telling you the truth, and that’s what GOD loves. Loretta was united in holy matrimony to Elijah Jones and they remained as husband and wife until the LORD called her home. She was also a very energetic and hard worker, most of the time with a smile on her face. After retiring from DBG in 2018, she loved spending time with her husband, her family and her friends. She especially loved her granny duties and would NOT let anybody or nothing get in her way when it came to her grandchildren. Soccer mom had nothing on this Granny. She also enjoyed the pleasant surroundings her husband created for her around her home. Like the gazebo he built for her to sit in and enjoy peaceful meditations and the beautiful plants and flowers he planted for her. Catfish also loved her music, dancing, throwing darts, laughing and having fun. Loretta was a giving and thoughtful person who actively supported her neighbors and her community. Known for her skills in the kitchen, she would feed everybody. Especially on Sundays you could count on a big delicious home-cooked meal. You would never leave Mrs. Loretta’s house hungry. We truly are going to miss her and those meals. The Almighty GOD permitted the death Angel to bring home one of His children and He chose Mrs. Loretta Jones on Friday, September 18, 2020. Preceded in death by her parents, Mary Lee Jones and Moses Malveaux; her sisters, Lois Colvin and Melissa Lewis; and nephew, Davion Alexander. Her loving memory will live on in the hearts of her beloved family, a loving husband, Mr. Elijah Jones; daughters, Carletta D. Young, Elisha Harris (Ameen) and Valencia Jones; sons, Larry Moore Young, III, and Philip Young; grandchildren, Remi White, Bria Williams, Ro’Dajah Sanders, Kenneth Smith, Jr., L’erique Jones, Ameen Harris, Jr. and Isis Harris; great-grandson, Braylon Edwards; brothers, Carl Wayne Malveaux, Charles Lynn Malveaux, and Nicolas Malveaux (Sabrina); sister, Nicole Hall; aunts, Verna Bledsoe, and Janie Young (Elton); best friend and devoted sister, Pat Jones; devoted nieces, Sheena Colvin and Rayann George; extended family, David and the DBG family, Debra Martinez and a host of other relatives and friends that will miss Loretta.
